LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 30, 2024) – The Louisville Zoo proudly announces the birth of a Sumatran tiger cub, marking the first tiger birth in more than 20 years for the Zoo. Born at 7:40 p.m. on July 23, 2024, the cub is the offspring of 16-year-old male Kami Sambal (kah-me-sahm-ball) and 14-year-old female Jingga (Jean-gah; like the game). Both mother and cub are thriving under the dedicated care of the Zoo’s expert staff. Jingga is demonstrating all the appropriate behaviors of an experienced mother, grooming, nursing and carrying her neonate cub. 

Nashville Zoo continues celebrating the conservation milestone of the birth of three critically endangered Sumatran tiger cubs. The cubs were born October 20, 2023, and they are now ready to be named. The public is invited to help vote for their favorite names from the choices below. Each vote comes with a financial commitment of the voter's choosing and every dollar raised will go to the Tiger Conservation Campaign, an organization helping to save native habitats, curb poaching, eliminate the trade of tiger parts and reduce human/tiger conflicts. 

Monarto Safari Park’s littlest lions have had their first health check, revealing the litter has three females and one male.

The health check involved a weight check, vaccination, and a quick once over of paws, claws and sharp teeth to make sure the cubs are growing up healthy and strong.

Monarto Safari Park’s Veterinarian Jerome Kalvas said the cubs are in great condition, weighing in at 7.4kg to the heaviest female being 8.9kg.

Introducing Jacksonville Zoo’s newest Malayan tiger ambassadors! Cinta gave birth to THREE cubs on Sunday, November 5. The few days after birth are critical as the little family adjusts. Cinta has been very attentive to her babies, grooming and allowing the cubs to nurse, so officials are giving them space while they get settled in and bond privately behind the scenes. Animal Care staff continue to monitor them to ensure they are eating, sleeping and cuddling as they should. Just like with humans, there are potential risks. We remain cautiously optimistic and look forward to sharing updates. Tigers play a critical role in their natural habitat by balancing and maintaining a thriving ecosystem. Unfortunately, there are estimated to be fewer than 150 Malayan tigers left in the wild. This pregnancy is a significant addition to the sustainability of the Critically Endangered species, and Jacksonville are proud of their contribution to ensuring a viable and diverse Malayan tiger population.

Carnivore keepers at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) in Front Royal, Virginia, are celebrating a litter of five cheetah cubs born to 8-year-old adult female Echo Tuesday, Sept. 12. Viewers can enjoy watching the cubs grow via the Cheetah Cub Cam. Note that Echo may move her cubs out of the den and around her habitat so they may be out of view at times.

Animal care staff will leave Echo to bond with and care for her cubs without interference, but as opportunities arise, staff will perform quick health checks. During a recent weight check, staff confirmed there are three males and two females. The cubs appear to be strong, active, vocal and eating well.

Hilvarenbeek, July 27, 2023 - Four healthy African lion cubs were born at Beekse Bergen Safari Park. The young animals were born during the night from Tuesday, July 11, to Wednesday, July 12. This is the first litter of lions in six years.

BIG (but little) news! It has been a busy time for the carnivores at Fossil Rim (Glen Rose, TX). The AZA accredited wildlife center is thrilled to announce the birth of two black-footed cat litters!

The first litter (two little boys) was born to female Afryea on March 31^st. The second litter was born to Bandit on April 16th (one girl and one boy). 

Two spotted, wriggly, critically endangered cubs born at CMZoo

May 19, 2023 (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) – There were happy tears at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on Wednesday, when Asian Highlands keepers celebrated the long-awaited arrival of two V.I.C.s – very important cubs. It has been nearly 20 years since Amur leopard cubs were born at CMZoo. Three days after Mother’s Day, Anya, a 9-year-old critically endangered Amur leopard became a first-time mom.

When a single Cheetah cub was born at Monarto Safari Park late in the night on Sunday 5 March, keepers were delighted but concerned.

This was just the beginning of a very spotty ‘tail’ that ended in an Australasian first for Zoos SA.

The female cub was born to seven-year-old Quella, but when particular big cat species like Cheetah give birth to one cub, called a singleton, they cannot produce enough milk to sustain their newborn.

Sumatran Tiger Delilah’s trio of cubs are growing fast and feisty at Adelaide Zoo, well if that’s what you call rolling around on your tummy and nibbling mum’s tail!

The latest vision, taken by Senior Keeper of Large Carnivores and Ungulates, Arliah Hayward shows the one boy and two girls playfully climbing on top of mum inside their private indoor area.
