Cotswold Wildlife Park Celebrates 'Rhino Month' With A Milestone: The Birth Of Two White Rhinos In Just One Week

It's been a remarkable time at Cotswold Wildlife Park and a milestone for both the European Breeding Programme and for Rhino conservation. Two weeks ago, White Rhino Ruby gave birth to the tenth Rhino born at the Park in the last decade - a huge achievement. It's rare to catch Rhino births on camera as females usually give birth during the night but luckily keepers were at the Park when the calf was born. They managed to film some incredible footage of the birth (at around 5pm on Saturday 12 August 2023) and the first moments in the new arrival's life.

Oklahoma City Zoo is thrilled to announce the recent birth of a rare clouded leopard kitten. Following an approximately 90-day gestation period, the OKC Zoo’s female clouded leopard, Rukai, gave birth to a male kitten on Tuesday, July 18, at the Zoo’s Cat Forest habitat.

The OKC Zoo is a proud participant in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA's) Species Survival Plan® (SSP) for clouded leopards. Because this is such a significant birth and the first birth of 2023 for this vulnerable species, the SSP recommended the Zoo’s animal care experts hand-rear the kitten to ensure he thrives. Immediately following the kitten’s birth, the Zoo’s carnivore caretakers stepped in and began providing round-the-clock care for this little cloudie.

UPDATE: The Little De Brazza’s Monkey Now Has a Name!

The little De Brazza’s Monkey born in early June at Milwaukee County Zoo now has a name! The animal care team decided on “Heri.” In Swahili, the name means “happiness” and can also mean “blessed” or “good luck.”

Heri has become more independent and quite adventurous. Holly continues to be a very attentive mom and is available if he needs help. Dad, Hugo, maintains a respectful distance.

Heri has been weighed with Holly holding him, and they recently weighed 6 kg (about 13 pounds) together.

Long-Awaited Arrival of Reticulated Giraffe Calf Sparks Joy at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield, Ill. — The approximately 15-month wait is over! The Chicago Zoological Society is excited to announce that Arnieta, a 16-year-old reticulated giraffe at Brookfield Zoo, gave birth to a female calf in the early morning hours of August 19. It will be a few weeks before the calf makes her public debut outdoors at Habitat Africa! The Savannah and she and Arnieta are reunited with other members of the giraffe herd. Staff anticipates the two will remain behind the scenes until early September to allow time for maternal bonding. This calf is the 60th giraffe born at the Zoo since 1940, and has had giraffes since it first opened in 1934.
