Celebration at AquaZoo Leeuwarden: Four Amur Tiger Cubs Born

Leeuwarden, 22 June 2023 - Four Amur tiger cubs have been born at AquaZoo Leeuwarden. It’s the first time the Friesland, Netherlands, Zoo has welcomed baby tigers.

The foursome was born early in the morning of June 15. "The birth of youngsters is always very special. You hope for it, but when it happens, it is very special," says chief animal caretaker William Kreijkes. "And the fact they are quadruplets — we never dared to dream that. So far it is going really well with both the cubs and the mother. It is always exciting how it will continue, but for now it looks looking good."

Zookeepers Fawn Over Tiny Deer

Zookeepers at Whipsnade Zoo hand rear baby ‘vampire’ deer before they move to London Zoo next month

Four three-week-old ‘vampire’ deer who measured just 12cm at birth, are being hand-reared by zookeepers at the UK’s largest conservation zoo – protecting an important population of the Vulnerable species.

Known as vampire deer due to their set of sharp ‘fangs’, the tiny Chinese water deer weighed just over 400g when they were born - the same as a can of soft drink - and are being cared for by zookeepers around the clock to protect them from passing predators.

De Brazza’s Monkey Born at the Milwaukee County Zoo

It was an exciting Saturday for visitors to the Primates of the World building at the Milwaukee County Zoo — a De Brazza’s monkey was born in their habitat, in front of the public!

The animal care team shares that mom Holly, 6, had a smooth birth on June 10 and that she and the baby are doing well. Holly is a first-time mom and has been attentive right from the start. Dad is Hugo, 4. Because Holly’s so attentive (and protective), zookeepers have avoided getting too involved, including weighing the baby or determining their sex initially, unless there’s cause for concern.
