Yep. He’s Still Perfect. And He’s Got a Name!

Yep. He’s still perfect.  The whole world has fallen in love with Mahale and Kucheza, after catching a glimpse of their emotional reunion. Chimpanzees in AZA-accredited institutions like Sedgwick County Zoo receive the highest level of care to meet their physical, emotional, and social needs - including the life-saving decision to deliver Kucheza via emergency C-section.

All of the animals in their care serve as important ambassadors for their species. Mahale and Kucheza have reminded us all that chimpanzees are smart, charismatic, and amazing animals. And they need our help! Small actions - like recycling your old cell phones and using only sustainably-sourced (certified) palm oil and paper products - can help save chimpanzees like Mahale and Kucheza in the wild.

A Tail Worth Telling! Taronga’s Announces Debut Of Two Adorable Dingo Pups

Taronga Zoo is delighted to announce the arrival of two, five-month-old adorable Dingo pups. The two pups will be making their public debut these summer school holidays, where guests can meet the duo at a brand-new Dingo Keeper Talk or in a specially curated behind-the-scenes Dingo encounter.

The two Dingoes, one male and one female, have both been given Indigenous names from the region they were born. The male has been named Kep Kep which means ‘sweet’, or ‘sugar’ in Wathawurrung language of Victoria, and the female has been named ‘Warada’ which means ‘beautiful’ in Dharug language. The word waratah, which is the floral emblem for the state of New South Wales is derived from the Indigenous word Warada.

Birth Of White Rhino Calf At The Wilds Celebrated For Bringing Hope To The Future Of His Species

Cumberland, OH –The Wilds’ southern white rhinoceros herd has grown with the exciting arrival of a newborn calf!

The male calf was born during the early morning hours of Thursday, November 17, 2022, to mother, Kali. The Animal Management team notes that Kali and her little one are both doing well. The calf, who is currently unnamed, is nursing alongside his mother and appears to be strong and spunky. The Animal Management team regularly observes him hopping in front of Kali on his “mushroom”-like feet (that he’ll soon grow into), all the while trying to get his patient mother’s attention with playful headbutts as she rests between nursing sessions. Kali and her calf will continue to bond in a maternity stall located in the facility’s large rhino barn and then begin introductions with other members of the herd in the next few weeks.

Six-month-old Chimp Stevie Meets Her Troop At Last!

Stevie, the 6 month old chimp, is getting to know her new family at Zoo Knoxville. Due to complications at birth, Stevie has been hand raised for most of her life. Recently Stevie was introduced to Daisy and Jambo, two female chimps in her troop. Both adults have shown a strong interest in the young chimp. This is one of the first major steps in preparing Stevie to meet the rest of the chimps at Zoo Knoxville, but for now zoo keepers are keeping a close eye on the growing relationship between Stevie, Daisy and Jambo.
