Tiny Zebra Zoomies!

Marwell is thrilled to announce the birth of an endangered Grevy’s zebra foal born to first time mum Khumba.

Grevy’s are the largest zebra species and are found in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia where there are currently thought to be fewer than 2,000 in the wild.

Populations have suffered as a result of habitat loss, extended periods of drought and poaching but are now thought to be stabilising.

World’s Smallest Monkey Triplets Thrive In Australasia For First Time In 31 Years

This little baby was born in early June at Wellington Zoo in New Zealand, and is particularly special because he is part of a set of very rare Pygmy Marmoset triplets. The last set of Pygmy triplets who survived in Australasia was way back in 1991 in Perth.

Tiny Little Pandas Grow Up

Two small pandas are growing up in the nest boxes at Diergaarde Blijdorp (Rotterdam Zoo). The pair were born behind the scenes last month. In the meantime, mother Kwina occasionally moves her young to another nest box. Three nest boxes have been incorporated into the habitat’s artificial rock and tree. The sire is Miyuko, he came to Blijdorp from Pairi Daiza at the beginning of this year. The young usually stay in their nest for about three months. After that, they appear more and more… Diergaarde Blijdorp coordinates the Population Management program and works with conservation organization Red Panda Network (RPN) in Nepal to protect and research the little panda in its habitat.

Bintlets Born at Potter Park Zoo

Potter Park Zoo celebrated Independence Day with the birth of baby bintlets. Female binturong (Arctictis binturong) Thistle gave birth to three babies the evening of July 4. This is the first binturong birth at the zoo in over two decades. Two of three babies are thriving. It’s a Girl! Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Announces Birth of Rhino Calf

Guests can help name the calf and support efforts to protect the critically endangered species

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo today announced the birth of a female Eastern black rhino calf on July 9, 2022. Both mom, Kibibbi, and her calf are doing well and are bonding behind-the-scenes for the next few weeks.

The birth is an important one for the species as Eastern black rhinos are critically endangered with less than 750 remaining in the wild due to poaching that supplies the illegal international rhino horn trade and habitat loss. Guests are invited to help name the calf and support conservation efforts to protect the species.

At 11.55 p.m. on Sunday 10 July 2022, a baby okapi was born at Basel Zoo. Toka’s birth has been the source of great excitement: he is only the fifth forest giraffe calf to be raised at Basel Zoo in over 20 years.

The new son of mother Ebony (10) and father Imba (15) is called Toka. The small bull is strong and curious. Immediately after he was born in the night between Sunday 10 and Monday 11 July 2022, he stood up on his shaky but stocky little legs and went in search of milk. Now, at 11 days old, Toka is in the best of health and is feeding regularly. After Quenco, who was born in 2019, Toka is okapi cow Ebony’s second successful birth. Her first calf came too early in 2017 and was stillborn.
